Bill E. Elliott

July 26, 1929 - January 14, 2010
Bill, a resident of Castro Valley, was a loving husband of 54 years to Maria, devoted father to Eugene and Robert of South Lake Tahoe, and Gerald (Judy) of Pioneer. He also leaves behind his sister, Barbara Parkin of Oakland, sister and brother-in-law Hermine and Louis Schechs of Parker, CO, uncles Arch and William, and nephews Chris and Stephan Schechs, and Bruce Parkin .

Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956 in Munich, Germany, where he met his future wife. He joined the Army Reserve in 1974 and served with the 481st Trans Co. (HB) until 1991, when he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. Starting in 1956 Bill worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a tugboat engineer on the San Francisco Bay until 1984, when he then began working for the Red and White Fleet for more than 10 years.

Bill was a man of nature who loved the outdoors — hunting, fishing, camping and backpacking — especially with his boys. He enjoyed going to SF Giants and Oakland A's baseball games with his family and friends. He also truly loved to spend time since the 1970s at the family vacation home in Pioneer.

A memorial service and reception will be held in Hayward, CA, on Saturday, January 23, 2010. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Parkinson's Institute, 1170 Morse Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA, 94089-1605.
