Martin "Murf" W. Murphy passed away Saturday, January 2, 2010 in Jackson at the age of 71 years. He was born May 12, 1938 to Kenneth and Sylvia (Martin) Murphy in Miami Oklahoma. Murf moved to Amador County with his family at age 8. He graduated from Amador County High School in 1956. Following high school he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving for 4 years from 1956 until 1960. Murf returned to Amador County and began working at Preston School of Industry as a Youth Counselor. In 1963 Murf married the girl of his dreams, Sylvia O'Donnell, they were married at Pine Grove Community Church. Their love for cats was mutual and many strays lived long happy lives because their tender loving care. After 30 years of service at Preston, Murf retired and spent more time traveling alone and as a member of the Goldwing Motorcycle Club, Woodland Chapter. He was a kind and loving brother with a big heart and a great friend to many.

He is survived by his sisters, Judy Ingraham and husband Forrest of Jamestown, Zula Dorado of Stockton; brother, Fred Murphy and wife Carolyn of Hillsboro, OR; 4 nephews and 1 niece. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Sylvia in 1993.
