William Faulkner Doherty passed away in his home July 2, 2010, at the age of 72. Born and raised in Stockton, CA in 1937, Mr. Doherty graduated from St. Mary's High School and enlisted in the Navy shortly thereafter. Mr. Doherty was promoted from enlistment to Non-Commissioned-Officer, Lt. JG in less than four years, becoming one of the youngest NCO's in the Navy. While in the Navy Reserve, Mr. Doherty earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Sacramento State University and did graduate work at Stanford University. Mr. Doherty was recruited into the National Security Agency (NSA) where he worked in cryptography, intercepting and decoding Russian and Chinese code. Following the NSA, Mr. Doherty worked for defense contractors as an electronics engineer on secret projects in the Silicon Valley prior to starting his own electronics company in 1968. In 1985, he realized his lifelong dream by relocating his company to the Mother Lode. Over the years, EMCO High Voltage Corporation, Sutter Creek, CA has been honored with multiple prestigious awards including "Product of the Year" from Electronic Products Magazine, "Product of the Year" from UC Davis CONNECT, "Key Partner Award" from Project Icecube (www.icecube.wisc.edu) and an "Employer Excellence Award" from California Governor Pete Wilson. In his spare time, Mr. Doherty was an aircraft flight instructor and helicopter pilot who enjoyed hunting, trout fishing and gold prospecting. He also fought to rein in government when they violated statutes that infringed upon the rights of the public. He made a big difference in this world. Mr. Doherty was preceded in death by his parents; Emmett E Doherty, Sr, Clair (Faulkner) Doherty, his brother Emmett (Sonny) Doherty, and his daughter Donna M. Doherty. Mr. Doherty is survived by his wife of 35 years, Roxanne Elise (McCoy) Doherty, children Debra McMannis of Orangevale, Mike Doherty of Pine Grove, Doug Doherty of Nome, Alaska, six grandchildren; Casey and Buddy McMannis, CreeAnn Kenitzer, Chrystie Salesky, and Joseph and Kylie Doherty. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 10, 2010, 1:00 P.M Our Lady of the Pines, Pioneer, CA with Visitation, Friday, July 9, 2010, 6:00 P.M., Rosary at 7:00 P.M., also at Our Lady of the Pines.
